The Career Closet is open to all currently enrolled UMD undergraduate and graduate students. Items are free for students to keep permanently.
Student Operating Hours
- Hours: Monday and Thursday 1-3pm (same time as Drop-in Hours)
- Location: 22 Solon Campus Center (Inside the Career Center)
What to Bring
Students do not need to present identification to access the closet. To help us keep the room stocked, our staff counts how many students visit and how many items are taken. If possible, please bring a bag to carry your clothes.

Where are the items from?
All items are donated by generous faculty, staff, and community members, alongside brand-new items provided by our corporate partner, Maurices. Everything is thoroughly sorted by our staff to ensure it is in excellent condition and of great quality.
What is the cost for the items?
All items are completely FREE to current UMD students.
What if I am a graduate student?
You are still a student! Any currently enrolled UMD student, including both undergraduate and graduate students, is welcome at the Career Closet.
Can I return my items if they do not fit or if I change my mind?
Because these clothes are completely free and yours to keep permanently, we do not accept returns. We ask that you gift them to a friend or classmate who can use them!
Can I try on the items?
Yes. The closet is located within a private room (22 Solon Campus Center) that functions as a changing space so you can try on pieces and view them in a full-length mirror.
Will you have my size?
Inventory is constantly changing based on current student needs and incoming donations. While selection varies weekly or even daily, we sort and stock a wide range of sizes to accommodate as many students as possible.
What do I need to bring?
You do not need to bring your U-Card, but we highly encourage you to bring a reusable shopping bag for your clothes.
